Toi O Te Tau Hou

June 24 @ 7:00 pm - July 24 @ 5:00 pm

Free

Toi o Te Tau Hou is a Free public Art Exhibiton on display from June 24 June – 21 July 2023 at The Meteor Hamilton

A national revitalisation of Maramataka has taken place over recent years and the significance of Matariki will be
observed as a national holiday for the first time in 2022. Māori and Pasifika creative practitioners have engaged with
Maramataka, lunar cycles for generations, making work that speaks to their whakapapa and relationship with atua
and whenua.
Matariki is the korowai for artists to create under. Maramataka provides the premise for artists to communicate
through. Our project mitigates Matariki seen just as a national holiday, that presents spectacle and a time to party.
Currently, there is no platform that exists in the arts and culture sector for Māori and Pasifika creative practitioners
to articulate their connection to Maramataka. Profiling our creative practitioners, each and every year so that they
may be seen heard as matauranga communicators and visionaries is transformational.
